David Ammons, Developer and Operations Manager for Legacy at Mills River, is Owner and Principal of Retirement Living Associates, Inc.

James M. Edwards III, Architect at Edwards Associates, has designed corporate facilities, schools, churches, campus and life care communities across North Carolina.

Alan D. McGuinn, AIA, LEED AP is Principal-in-Charge of the Asheville office of Calloway Johnson Moore & West, PA, an architecture, engineering and interior design firm with more than a century of experience.

These founders bring a heritage of service in North Carolina and a deep sense of mission to Legacy at Mills River.

Beverly-Grant is the largest General Contractor based in Western North Carolina, specializing in Medical and Health Care/Assisted Living Facilities, with extensive experience in all types of commercial and industrial facilities. Beverly-Grant was recently featured in “Long Term Living Magazine” for designing/building the Laurel Park Medical Centre. The company received the HONOR AWARD by the American Institute of Architects for the Capital Center in Asheville, NC. CBS also featured one of Beverly-Grant’s current projects, CooperRiis Wellness Center, on a recent Sunday Morning News show.

Jerry Grant brings over 40 years of expertise, from general laborer to CEO of a long standing, well respected and successful construction company in North Carolina. He provides overall responsibility of operation of the company, with an emphasis on marketing.

Rick Grant is a 1975 Graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent 10 years with E.I. Dupont in various management positions, including Industrial Engineering, Information Systems and Manufacturing. He offers 24 years of experience in construction, from facilities design to President, with overall responsibility of total projects, from conception to completion. He is currently responsible for total company operations. He was lead individual for the development of:

  • Devonshire: an 87-unit subdivision of accessible/adaptable custom homes
  • Twenty Town Mountain: a multi-tenant office building in the Central Business District of Asheville
  • Nettlewood Professional Park: a 30-acre office park in South Asheville, with over 200,000 square feet of office space
  • Park Ridge Medical Office Building: a 70,000 square foot, 5-story office complex
    on the campus of Park Ridge Hospital

Henry C. Watts, Vice President of Beverly-Grant, brings 27 years of construction experience to the community, with certification by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. His showcase projects include the Capital Center; the state-of-the-art emergency room and radiology renovations at Park Ridge Hospital; HOPE, a women’s specialty cancer center; the Asheville Surgery Center; the Biltmore Forest Country Club; and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.

David Ammons Developer and Operations Manager of Legacy at Mills River and Owner and Principal of Retirement Living Associates, Inc., represents the second generation of his family in the senior living industry; His father, Jud, co-founded Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh, based on the belief that seniors deserved more from the people who serve them. David has worked in all aspects of Springmoor, serving as Executive Director from
1991-1998. Today he acts in a supervisory role as CEO, overseeing all of the operations. He has also developed and owns Mars Hill Retirement Community, an Assisted Living community in Mars Hill, North Carolina. David has served as development consultant at Blakey Hall, an Assisted Living community in Elon College. Currently David is also developing SpringShire, a CCRC project in Greenville, NC. He has also developed townhome projects and two medical office buildings in Raleigh, among other projects.

James M. Edwards III Architect at Edwards Associates also designed Springmoor. The firm, founded in 1939, has designed corporate facilities, schools, churches, campus and life care communities across North Carolina. He has been recognized for expertise in the design of state-of-the-art Alzheimer’s units and has developed standards, definitions and zoning codes for life care and congregate communities for the City of Raleigh. He has been instrumental in drafting modifications to the North Carolina Building Code.

Alan D. McGuinn, AIA, LEED AP is Principal-in-Charge of the Asheville office at Calloway Johnson Moore & West, PA, an architecture, engineering and interior design firm with more than a century of experience. Headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC, CJMW projects include mixed-use urban development, theaters, museums, planetariums, classroom buildings, medical centers, historic renovations, adaptive re-use projects, recreational centers and corporate headquarters. He is a past president of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Hutch Kerns is the founder of Kerns Landscape Architecture.  Located in Asheville, the firm’s project experience includes large-scale planning and amenity design, urban design, master planning, and high-end residential design.  Kerns understanding of the land provides the “connections to place” that are so vital to any project. The firm stands apart with its ability to view a project from a large-scale, master planning level, while giving attention to the smallest detail.  Hutch received his degree in Landscape Architecture from Auburn University.
